Cultural arrangements to suit every taste
1) Traditional Swedish Celebrations
We arrange many of these events in conjunction with Norsk-svensk Forening (Norwegian-Swedish Society). Swedes are very good at celebrating various festive days. Make a note of the following events in your diaries:
· “Valborgsmässoafton” (Walpurgis Night) with bonfire, traditional songs, herrings and schnapps
· Midsummer celebrations with maypole, games, delicious food and more
· “Kräftskiva” – a long established crayfish party. Cheese from the Västerbotten region of Sweden as well as traditional drinking songs are also in abundance during these celebrations
· “Mårten Gås” where “Svartsoppa” (“Black-Soup”), a soup traditionally made from goose blood is served
· Santa Lucia – a midwinter festival with traditional songs being sung in the early hours of the morning
2) Outdoor arrangements
Whenever an arrangement is too grand to be help indoors, we will stage it outdoors. Norwegian, Swedish and international music arrangements as well as theatre performances can be held outside, for example in our new amphitheatre.
3) Food
Throughout the year we dish up everything from conventional Swedish and Norwegian fare to more exotic delicacies from other parts of the world. Occasionally we serve food in accordance with a chosen culinary theme like, for example, Swedish peasant food. Regardless of a theme or not, you are always guaranteed an exciting culinary experience at Voksenåsen.
4) Culture
Voksenåsen presents classical concerts, folkloric music events, singers and more. Our annual SummerAcademy for young people is titled “When music and food meet”.
5) Exhibitions
Voksenåsen hosts numerous exhibitions throughout the year, presenting both well established as well as up-and-coming artists. Have a look at our program for further information.
6) Seminars and conferences
A range of topics are presented in this year’s program. Please go to “News’ and follow the link to our separate programme for more information.
